DUI Driver Arrested After Fleeing Crash Scene: North Haven Police

Police made several arrests and issued more than 40 infractions as part of a traffic enforcement operation in North Haven.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A DUI driver fleeing a crash and a person wanted on an arrest warrant taken into custody were among the arrests made Friday in North Haven as part of a traffic enforcement operation, according to police.

Police said the South Central Regional Traffic Unit was deployed in North Haven on Oct. 31 to conduct a coordinated traffic enforcement operation.

During the enforcement, police said a mobile license plate reader (LPR) alerted officers to a vehicle displaying a stolen license plate. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and determined the driver had an active arrest warrant out of Bridgeport, according to police.

Police said the person was taken into custody.

“Additionally, while conducting enforcement in the area of Route 5 near Big Y, officers witnessed a motor vehicle accident,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “The driver responsible for the collision fled the scene but was quickly located and apprehended by the traffic team. Further investigation determined that the driver was operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.”

Police said the team conducted more than 70 motor vehicle stops leading to multiple arrests, 41 infractions, and numerous towed vehicles for various violations.

“The South Central Regional Traffic Unit continues to proactively address traffic safety concerns throughout the region by conducting targeted enforcement operations focused on identifying and deterring unsafe driving behavior,” police wrote. “Great work by all participating towns and officers!”
