Longtime Former North Haven Coach Dies, Mourned By Community
The community is mourning the death of the former coach and teacher, who was a member of the high school's athletic Hall of Fame.
NORTH HAVEN, CT — The North Haven community is mourning the death of former longtime track coach and teacher Steve Celmer.
The North Haven High School Athletic Department shared the news of Celmer’s death in a post on social media on Wednesday.
Celmer, who also coached at Platt Technical High School in Milford, was a former longtime coach of the North Haven High School boys outdoor track and field team. He was inducted into the North Haven High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.

“Coach Celmer was a dedicated mentor who profoundly impacted his athletes, both on and off the field,” the athletic department wrote in a post on Facebook. “His focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth shaped many young lives. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his athletes and the positive influence he had on their lives. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”
