NORTH HAVEN, CT — A medical technology manufacturer is planning a major expansion in North Haven, according to First Selectman Michael Freda.

Freda said in a post on Facebook on Friday that he recently met with executives of the Medtronic Corporation and things are still on track for a major expansion at the company’s existing site at 60 Middletown Avenue.

“They enjoy being in North Haven and enjoy working with us,” Freda wrote in the post. “Our town is becoming the world wide corporation headquarters for this great company.

“Additionally, I have a lot of support from the State Department of Economic Community Development to help revitalize that business area with resources available to our town for additional development opportunities.”

Freda also updated residents on other projects in the Montowese area.

This has been a very complicated process but in addition to a large expansion at Medtronic inside their campus on Middletown Avenue, here are some other important updates in the surrounding area in the Montowese section:

1) We are closing in on a viable solution for the Rite Aid which has been foreclosed on. The bank which foreclosed on the building previously put a proposal to me there which does absolutely nothing for the town and I have totally rejected it.

We are now recruiting with the owner of the building different formats that are much more beneficial to our residents and to the 3000 employees at Medtronic. The asking price for the building has been an issue which we are trying to work through

2) The 2200 square foot store at 102 Middletown Avenue is being built and will have Door Dash service for their breakfast and lunch items for deliveries to Medtronic, other businesses and our residents.

3) A new Venezuelan restaurant will be opening up on Quinnipiac Avenue right near Middletown Avenue. I will be there this coming week.

4) I am bringing in another developer to meet with Medtronic to develop the corner of McDermott Road and Quinnipiac Avenue to try to bring in another restaurant or a high end coffee shop for our residents and for Medtronic employees.

Everything is now in motion to try to revitalize that area of town. There are still some obstacles that we need to overcome with older buildings which the owners are reluctant to upgrade.

I appreciate our partnership with Medtronic as a great worldwide company, and as a business partner to help us revitalize that area.

It is always good when a major company expands in a town versus leaving a town.
