Quinnipiac University hosts pre-college “Nursing: Explore Your Career” summer program
NORTH HAVEN – Quinnipiac University recently welcomed 23 high school students to its “Nursing: Explore Your Career” pre-college summer program, an immersive, hands-on experience aimed at introducing students to the nursing profession.
As part of the weeklong initiative, participants took part in high-fidelity operating room simulations, including a mock surgical scenario involving a 14-year-old patient requiring an appendectomy. The exercise offered students a realistic view of the fast-paced and collaborative nature of surgical nursing.
The program, which included two separate one-week sessions and concluded Friday, is designed to give high school students early exposure to clinical skills, simulation labs, and healthcare terminology, while also highlighting educational pathways within the field.
“The program provides high school students with further exposure to the nursing role,” said Lisa Rebeschi, senior associate dean and professor of nursing at Quinnipiac. “Our goal is to increase the students’ exposure to nursing as a potential career. Students are also able to learn about nursing education and the programs offered in the School of Nursing at QU. We have loved working with the students during camp. They bring an incredible level of enthusiasm and inquisitiveness that energizes all of us.”
