Target Shoplifter Caught At Nearby Restaurant: North Haven Police

The suspect was arrested after heading for the back door of the restaurant, according to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A shoplifting suspect at Target was later arrested at Buffalo Wild Wings in North Haven on Wednesday, according to police.

Police responded to Target on Universal Drive on April 23 on the report of a theft. Responding officers were given a description of the suspect, who police said was heading toward Buffalo Wild Wings across the street.

The first-responding officer saw a person who matched the description given.

The suspect, a 51-year-old New Haven man, had entered Buffalo Wild Wings and was seen heading toward a back door of the restaurant when police arrived.

The man was detained as police continued to investigate.

The man was charged with sixth-degree larceny in connection with the theft at Target, and was found to be in the possession of small amounts of drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“Theft in retail areas, specifically Universal Drive, has become common,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “This is unacceptable, and we are cracking down on it. Offenders should expect to be arrested, either in the act or by warrant if they get away.

“Many previous offenders in incidents like this have had items such as drugs on them, or will have active warrants, etc. These ‘minor’ issues, often turn into more. We will pursue all applicable charges, whether perceived ‘minor’ or not. We will charge them with everything we can lawfully charge.”
