Solar Panel Fire Breaks Out On Rooftop Of Norwalk Building: UPDATE

Fire officials said crews "encountered smoke and flames coming from multiple solar panels on the roof of the building."

NORWALK, CT — Firefighters extinguished a solar panel fire that broke out Friday afternoon on the rooftop of a commercial building in Norwalk, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Adam Markowitz said a structure fire with smoke and flames coming from the roof was reported around 3 p.m. at a two-story commercial building on Main Avenue.

According to Markowitz, crews were already responding to a motor vehicle accident in the area when the fire was reported.

Crews were able to quickly divert to the fire, which played a key role in containing fire spread, Markowitz said.

When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from multiple solar panels on the roof of the building, Markowitz said.

An attack line was stretched to the roof and the fire was extinguished in 10 minutes, according to Markowitz.

No injuries were reported, Markowitz said.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire, according to Markowitz.
