Child Abuse Investigation Results In Norwalk Woman's Arrest: Police

NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk woman was arrested this week in connection to a suspected child abuse investigation, according to police.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Ryan Evarts said the department's Special Victims Unit received a referral from the Connecticut Department of Children and Families on June 11 regarding a suspected case of child abuse.

According to Evarts, the investigation was initiated after school staff noticed several welts on the back of a 6-year-old student.

An arrest warrant was issued for a 35-year-old Norwalk woman on Tuesday following a thorough joint investigation by a Special Victims Unit detective in coordination with the Department of Children and Families, Evarts said.

The woman turned herself in to police Wednesday, according to Evarts. She was charged with third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Her bond was set at $5,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court Thursday, according to Evarts.
