City Man Arrested on DUI Charges After Crashing into Police Cruiser

A 38 year-old city man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly crashing into a police cruiser while driving under the influence of alcohol, according to police.

An officer was on DUI patrol at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning when he observed a vehicle driving without lights on and pulled it over on West Avenue near the southbound entrance of I-95, police said. While he was speaking with the driver, he noticed another vehicle coming towards his cruiser and the vehicle he pulled over. The vehicle smashed into the cruiser, which cause the cruiser to crash into the vehicle behind it, police said. Neither the officer nor the driver he pulled over were injured.

When the officer approached the second car, he observed that the driver—Christopher McGee of 41 Wolfpit Ave.—appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol, police said. McGree was brought to Norwalk Hospital for treatment and his blood alcohol level was registered as 0.2, according to police.

McGee was arrested and charged with operation of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and reckless driving. His bond was set at $10,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 18.
