Dog Rescued, Firefighter Injured In Norwalk House Fire: FD

Fire officials said the the dog was found unconscious from smoke inhalation and rushed to an emergency vet in Norwalk.

NORWALK, CT — A dog was rescued from a house fire that broke out Friday afternoon in Norwalk, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.

In a news release, Assistant Chief of Operations Edward McCabe said a structure fire was reported around 1 p.m. at a two-story wood-frame home on Tryon Road.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire venting from the house, McCabe said.

Crews entered the home and fought the blaze with one hose line on each floor of the house. It was contained within 40 minutes, according to McCabe.

Firefighters searched the building and determined no residents were home when the fire began, however a dog was found unconscious from smoke inhalation, according to McCabe.

The dog was moved to the front yard, where it was quickly assessed by firefighters and Norwalk Hospital medics, according to McCabe.

The animal was then rushed to an emergency vet in Norwalk, where it is expected to make a full recovery, McCabe said.

One firefighter was taken to Norwalk Hospital with a hand injury. No other injuries were reported, McCabe said.

Two residents of the home were displaced as a result of the fire and are receiving aid from the American Red Cross, according to McCabe.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal's Division is investigating the cause of the fire, McCabe said.
