Volunteer food runner Karol Brumit (l) and Community Plates Fairfield Site Director Tom Hauser (r) help load up a car with food donated by Fairway Market. The Stamford store donated 140 turkeys, 15 cases of yam and a pallet of vitamin water to Community Plates, a non-profit organization who is committed to ending American food-insecurity through direct-transfer food rescue.
Community Plates, located in Norwalk delivers food where food is needed most. The non-profit uses technology and a roster of volunteer "runners" to transfer food directly from donors to receiving agencies. It's not uncommon for rescued food to be on a hungry person's table within a half hour.
