Joseph R. "Chip" Galbo, 65, President of Sterling Furniture

Joseph R. "Chip" Galbo, 65, passed away after seven years fighting lung cancer.

Joseph R. “Chip” Galbo, age 65 of Norwalk, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at home, after a courageous seven year battle with lung cancer. Born in Norwalk, the son of the late Joseph M. and Teresa (Ferrigno) Galbo, he was the beloved husband of Rita Chabot Galbo for 45 years.

Mr. Galbo was the president of their family-owned furniture store; Sterling Furniture” until its closing in 1988, whereupon he worked at Harvey Building Products until his retirement in 2011. He was President of the Columbus Memorial Scholarship Fund for the last 12 years, and was a member for over 30 years.

His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Chip was an avid golfer and enjoyed working at Oak Hills Golf Course part-time for 14 years. In addition to his loving wife, Rita, he is survived by two daughters; Nicole Galbo of Norwalk and  Karen Galbo of Bridgeport, a brother Richard Galbo , Mother-in-law Beatrice Chabot, both of Norwalk, Brother-in-law Rob (Margo) Chabot of Riverside, CA, sister-in-law Linda Chabot of Guilford, Cousins; Michael and Richard Massa and Gina Pasciucco, as well as nieces and nephews; Theresa Galbo, Elyse Chabot, Joseph Galbo, Christopher, Matthew and Adam Yorzinski, and Matthew Chabot. He was predeceased by his nephew, Marc Chabot.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Saturday, May 26, at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. His family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 8PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk.  Memorial donations may be made to: The Whittingham Cancer Center, 30 Stevens Street, Norwalk, CT 06850.
