Live Grenade Found In Backyard Of Norwalk Home: Police

Police said an additional hand grenade was also found disabled on the side of the road in Norwalk earlier that day.

NORWALK, CT — Two hand grenades, one of which was found to be live, were located Monday in Norwalk, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said officers were called to a St. Mary's Lane home just before 10:30 a.m. after a resident found a grenade on the side of the road.

Officers were also called to a Wolfpit Avenue home around 3:30 p.m. after a grenade was found in the backyard of the property, Podgorski said.

During both incidents, patrol officers and supervisors secured the areas and notified the Stamford Police Department Bomb Squad, Podgorski said.

After further investigation, the grenade found on St. Mary's Lane was determined to be disabled and inert, however the grenade found on Wolfpit Avenue was confirmed to be live and safely removed by the bomb squad, according to Podgorski.

A Norwalk Police Department Explosive Detection Dog and his handler searched the surrounding area and did not find any additional devices, Podgorski said.

Podgorski thanked the Stamford Police Department for their "prompt and professional assistance" and reminded residents to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity to police.
