In Memoriam: Retired Norwalk Police Lt. Timothy J. Murphy
The former New Canaan resident and retired Norwalk Police lieutenant passed away Jan. 29 at the age of 55.

Retired Norwalk Police Lt. Timothy J. Murphy, who was a 33-year veteran of the force, lost his battle with cancer on January 29, 2016 at his home in Florida. He was 55.
He was the beloved husband of Kimberley Murphy.

Tim was born in Bronxville, NY on September 13, 1960, the son of the late John and Alice Dolan Murphy.
He was raised in New Canaan, attended Trinity Pawling Prep School, was a graduate of St. Leo College and received his master’s degree from the University of New Haven. In addition to his 33 years of service to Norwalk, Tim was an avid hockey player and a founding member of the Norwalk Police Hockey Team. He was very proud to be an adjunct professor at NCC and was an avid golfer.

Tim was highly respected and much beloved by his family, his fellow officers and the Norwalk community.
In addition to his wife Kim, Tim is survived by his step-daughters Nicole and Danielle; his brothers John, David and Brian; his sisters Karen and Joanne and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his brothers in blue.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry St., New Canaan. Tim’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Friday, February 5 from 3 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to National Hockey League Foundation- Hockey Fights Cancer and sent to, Ann Marie Lynch, Director, Community Relations, National Hockey League, 1185 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10036.
