A new cafe offering quality coffee, pastries and more in a casual and fun environment recently opened its doors in Norwalk.
NORWALK, CT — A new cafe recently opened its doors on West Avenue, offering quality coffee, pastries and more in a casual and fun environment.
Owner Elvis Fernandez said Carpe Diem Cafe officially opened Aug. 28 after more than a year of planning, designing and bringing his vision to life.
"It has been a true labor of love," Fernandez said to Patch, "and we're thrilled to finally share it with the Norwalk community."

Fernandez moved to Norwalk two years ago and quickly fell in love with the city's energy and diversity, particularly in the West Avenue area of the city.
"West Avenue in particular stood out as the perfect location because it's a neighborhood that's truly on the rise with new residential developments, a vibrant community, and an exciting mix of local businesses," Fernandez said. "We wanted Carpe Diem Cafe to be part of that growth and contribute to making this area a welcoming destination for both residents and visitors."

Though there are a number of cafes in Norwalk, Carpe Diem Cafe stands out by offering customers a unique combination of art, atmosphere and craft, according to Fernandez.
The space at 520 West Avenue is filled with original artwork hand-painted by Fernandez's uncle, Hungría Sánchez, a talented artist from the Dominican Republic.
Customers can dine and relax right under one of Sánchez's larger-scale works, which are complimented by warm lighting and a fun greenery ceiling, as well as sufficient space for customers to move around and sit casually with friends.
"We're committed to offering specialty coffee and curated food experiences that you won't find everywhere," Fernandez said. "Every detail from the artwork to the interior design, to the beverage and food menu has been thoughtfully created to make people feel at home."
The menu at Carpe Diem Cafe includes a wide variety of coffee beverages, including lattes, espresso, macchiatos, cappuccinos, cold brew and hot chocolate, as well as lemonade and tea.
Guests can also enjoy pastries such as croissants and muffins and other food items.
Fernandez also noted he was excited to introduce an "all day menu" that will transition guests seamlessly from morning to evening.
"Guests can enjoy breakfast and lunch options during the day, and in the evenings we'll feature a curated selection of wine, cheese boards and charcuterie boards that will be perfect for winding down with friends," Fernandez said. "Since opening, customers have responded really well to our coffee program, especially the specialty drinks that highlight the quality and care we put into every cup."
The atmosphere at Carpe Diem Cafe is just as important as the menu, both of which Fernandez said were created with customers in mind.
"Our goal is to provide a space that feels safe, welcoming and inspiring," Fernandez said. "We want everyone who walks in to feel at home, whether you're stopping by for your morning coffee, catching up with friends or just looking for a quiet moment in your day."
Fernandez also noted he and his team are incredibly grateful to be part of the Norwalk community and hope residents and visitors of Norwalk enjoy the cafe as much as they enjoyed creating it.
He also teased the possibility of future expansion for his recently opened cafe.
"Looking ahead, we're excited about the possibility of expanding into nearby towns so that more people can experience Carpe Diem Cafe," Fernandez said, "but for now, our focus is on building strong roots right here in Norwalk and serving our neighbors with care and passion."
