Norwalk Expands SoNo Saturday Market, Street Closure Announced

The city announced the market has been expanded following a successful launch in June and will now feature a total of nearly 60 vendors.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk's second SoNo Saturday Market scheduled for this week will feature nearly double the number of vendors following a successful launch in June, city officials announced this week.

According to a news release provided by the city, the second event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with more than 20 new vendors attending, bringing the total to nearly 60.

"We were thrilled that so many people attended our first SoNo Saturday Market in June, causing the number of local vendors to nearly double for our second event this weekend," Chief of Economic and Community Development Jay Habansky said in a news release. "The SoNo Saturday Market was designed to support our local entrepreneurs and business community and celebrate the incredible talent and creativity that exists right here in the Norwalk community."

Since additional space is needed beyond the 50 Washington Street lawn, the city will temporarily close a section of Washington Street to vehicles.

Washington Street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. between the train bridge intersection (North Main/South Main/Washington) and the Webster Lot entrance, according to the city.

The rest of Washington Street will remain open to vehicles with no disruptions to accessing the South Norwalk Library or Post Office, however Madison Street will only allow local access with no outlet to Washington Street.

Detours will be available and visibly marked on Monroe Street and North Main Street, according to the city.

Some of the vendors participating Saturday include returning local favorites such as Grazing Charcuterie Bar (mini charcuterie cups), Notes Coffee Bar (iced drinks), Diana Margarette Bouquets (build-your-own floral arrangements), seven16 Permanent Jewelry (custom-welded jewelry) and The Horse's Mouth (fresh micro-greens).

A complete list of vendors can be found on the city's website.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy live music, a toddler play area, lawn games, bubbles and relax on picnic blankets provided by the city throughout the lawn.

The Silent Book Club of Norwalk will also be onsite with extra blankets and a selection of books for guests to sit and read during the event, according to the city.

After browsing the market, attendees are encouraged to enjoy lunch from a vendor or one of our local restaurants or cafés nearby, city officials said.

The city will also hold SoNo Saturday Market events Aug. 30 and Sept. 27 at 50 Washington Street Lawn in South Norwalk.

According to the city, the SoNo Saturday Market is a family-friendly, rain-or-shine, open-air market featuring Norwalk-based artisans, farmers, bakers and entrepreneurs.

Its mission is to foster a sense of community for local businesses and create a space for families and friends to come together and experience the best of Norwalk, according to the city.

Parking is available nearby at the Webster Street Municipal Parking Lot. For those who walk or bike, the Norwalk Bike/Walk Commission will provide a free bike valet service, city officials said.
