Starting this month, residents with a library card can check out a blood pressure kit from either branch of the Norwalk Public Library.
The kit includes an automated blood pressure self-monitor and cuff, instructions, and education materials about how to interpret results, heart healthy tips, and where to go for help if they have an elevated reading, according to NHD.

"This partnership between the Norwalk Public Library, the health department and the American Heart Association is a great example of how we can work together to bring valuable health resources directly to the community," Lamond Daniels, the city's chief of community services, said in a news release.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, individuals with high blood pressure may not have warning signs and symptoms, with many people unaware that their blood pressure is elevated, NHD officials noted in the release.
Measuring blood pressure early and often can help people better understand their heart health status and take the steps needed to lower their blood pressure earlier, such as speaking to a health care provider and making heart healthy behavior changes, according to NHD.
"The Norwalk Health Department and Norwalk Public Library are doing incredible work to improve community health through their blood pressure kit lending program," Lynette Coleman, AHA's VP of community impact, said in a news release. "We are grateful to be a supportive partner in their mission, helping empower residents to take control of their heart health and live healthier lives."
The blood pressure kits are available to borrow at the Norwalk Public Library's main and South Norwalk branches.
