Norwalk Ice Cream Shop Serves Up Unique New Tomato Basil Flavor
A Norwalk ice cream shop is now serving a unique new limited time flavor that might sound more at home in a pizzeria: tomato basil.
NORWALK, CT — As Norwalk residents soak up the remaining days of summer, one local ice cream shop has put out a unique new flavors that might seem more at home in a pizzeria than atop a waffle cone: tomato basil.
Mr. Frosty's Ice Cream, located on First Street in the East Norwalk area of the city, unveiled the new flavor in a social media post Friday as part of its "Flavor Drop Friday" series.
"Summers coming to a close, schools starting soon, and it's fair to say we’ve officially lost it. Like...completely," the post reads.

The unique flavor consists of a sweet cream base with fresh tomatoes and basil, resulting in a scoop of ice cream that can either be "summer in a cone" or possibly "a salad in disguise," according to the post.
Mr. Frosty's Spokesperson Rosa Luciani said Tuesday the idea for the tomato basil flavor came from the store's team brainstorming new ideas during the final stretch of summer vacation season.

"We've always done sweet ice cream flavors and wanted to try a savory [flavor]," Luciani said to Patch. "We had an overflow of tomatoes in our family garden and figured why not try a tomato basil."
While interest in the unique flavor is high, Luciani cautioned that it may not be every customer's new favorite scoop of ice cream.
"Everyone is interested and definitely want a taste of it," Luciani said, "but this flavor is not for everyone. You have to like savory, you have to like tomatoes and you have to be adventurous enough to want a scoop."
Any adventurous customers excited to try a scoop of tomato basil should probably make their way to Mr. Frosty's sooner rather than later, as the flavor is "a very limited batch," according to Luciani.
"It’s not what anyone is expecting," Luciani said, "and we hope everyone gets a chance to stop by and taste it."
Luciani also noted Mr. Frosty's is always looking to introduce new items to its ever-expanding menu.
"The owners always talk about new things," Luciani said. "We talk to our staff about things that they like. We plan to continue 'Flavor Drop Friday' as long as we can keep coming up with new flavors. We hope to introduce some fun fall ones coming within the [next] few weeks."
