Norwalk Man Charged with DWI

A Norwalk man was charged with driving while intoxicated Monday evening, according to police.

Gregory Kempf, a 52-year-old of 28 1/2 2nd St., went into Wine Basket liquor store at 11 Cove Ave. reportedly looking to purchase alcohol, according to police.

Kempf had allegedly had a prior incident at the store, and the seller said Kempf reportedly appeared intoxicated and refused to sell him beer, police said.

When Kempf left and drove away, the seller reportedly called police. Kempf was then stopped on the Washington Street Bridge and failed several field sobriety tests, according to police.

Kempf was charged with operating an unregulated motor vehicle and operating a vehicle while under the influence. He bond was set at $100 and his court date is scheduled for July 26, according to the arrest log.
