Norwalk Police Remind Residents Which Vehicles Aren't Allowed
Police shared details on which type of vehicle is not allowed on city streets.
NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk, CT Police Department posted on Facebook a reminder to residents that "Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) are Prohibited in Norwalk."
"The State of Connecticut allows for the registration and limited operation of Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) under updated statutes. However, municipalities have the authority to restrict their use," police said.

Included in the statute:
“Sec. 14-289m, Operation of low-speed vehicles. Penalty. A person may operate a low-speed vehicle on a highway with an established speed limit of not more than twenty-five miles per hour, unless the traffic authority of any town, city or borough or the Office of the State Traffic Administration, as provided in section 14-298, prohibits or otherwise limits the operation of low-speed vehicles on any highway under the jurisdiction of such traffic authority or office.”

“Any person who operates a low-speed vehicle in violation of any provision of this section shall have committed an infraction.”
In January 2024, the Norwalk Traffic Authority officially prohibited the operation of LSVs on all roadways within the city.
"We urge the public’s cooperation in abiding by this statute and the prohibition of LSVs in Norwalk by the Traffic Authority. LSVs are not legally allowed to be driven in Norwalk and our officers will be conducting enforcement to ensure the safety of everyone on our roadways."
