Opening Date Announced For New Target Store In Norwalk

An opening date has been announced for the city's first Target store, which will also feature a CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks.

NORWALK, CT — After years of anticipation for residents, the city's first Target store is officially set to open its doors in Norwalk this summer.

A Target spokesperson confirmed Monday the store is set to open Aug. 17 at 680 Connecticut Avenue.

The new Target store is planned to open in the large space formerly occupied by the city's second Walmart store, which closed back in November 2023.

A banner announcing the opening date of the new Target could be seen posted to the front of the building Monday afternoon.

According to a fact sheet provided by Target, the more than 117,000-square-foot store is expected to employ about 180 team members and will also feature a CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks café.

The store will also provide drive up and order pickup services, as well as same-day delivery with Target Circle 360.

The new location, open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., will mark the company's 24th store in Connecticut, according to Target.

A large sign announcing the location of the new Target store was first spotted along Connecticut Avenue back in August. At the time, a company spokesperson teased a grand opening date would be announced in the near future.

"We're excited to bring an easy, affordable and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the Norwalk community with this new Target store," the spokesperson said in August.

The Connecticut Avenue shopping plaza also includes a Home Goods department store.

Plans for the new store were first submitted to the city's Planning and Zoning Department in March 2023.

In August 2023, Norwalk spokesperson Michelle Woods Matthews said Target's permitting team had made the city aware they were in the process of submitting their construction plans for their zoning and building permits and had been in touch with Planning and Zoning regarding signage.

That same month, Walmart confirmed the Connecticut Avenue store and its pharmacy would close by early November.

Walmart continues to operate its store at 650 Main Avenue in Norwalk, near the Wilton border.

In addition to the Norwalk location, Target also plans to open a new Connecticut store at 900 Boston Post Road in Guilford.
