NORWALK, CT — After months of anticipation, Wegmans Food Markets announced Monday the company's first Connecticut store location will open in Norwalk at 9 a.m. on July 23.

Wegmans Spokesperson Marcie Rivera said grand opening preparations for the store at 675 Connecticut Avenue are currently underway.

Wegmans had previously announced the opening of the Norwalk store was planned for this summer, however an exact date was not specified until Monday.

Last month, Store Manager Emily Gee told Patch construction of the Norwalk store was "on schedule and progressing well toward a summer 2025 opening."

Rivera said Monday the company did not have any specific updates on the Norwalk store's construction at this time.

"Everything is on schedule for the July 23 opening," Rivera said to Patch.

Mayor Harry Rilling said Monday the city was thrilled to welcome Wegmans to Norwalk.

"Wegmans is known for their great customer service, high-quality products and commitment to community engagement," Rilling said to Patch. "They will be a valuable addition to our city, offering a unique experience and dedication to supporting our community."

Rilling also noted Norwalk was proud to be home to the company's first Connecticut store, which he said was a testament to the city's growth and vibrant, diverse community.

"Norwalk has so much to offer as a coastal city along the I-95 corridor, making us a hub for businesses, families and visitors alike," Rilling said. "The city's balance of urban amenities, coastal charm and commitment to growth make it the perfect place for innovative companies like Wegmans to call home."

As the Norwalk store prepares to open in less than six months, hiring for both part-time and full-time roles throughout the store is ongoing.

According to additional press materials provided by Wegmans, available roles at the Norwalk store range from customer service positions in merchandising, service, culinary and perishable departments to entry-level management roles.

The 92,000-square-foot will employ approximately 500 people when it opens in July, according to Wegmans.

"We're looking for enthusiastic candidates to round out our team before opening day," Gee said in a statement. "We're excited to begin the countdown to July 23 when we can welcome the Norwalk community through our doors."

According to Gee, the company is always looking for people who share Wegmans' values of respect, caring, high standards, making a difference and empowerment when considering job candidates.

"The right candidates are also passionate about food, people and giving back to their community," Gee said to Patch in January.

Those interested in working at the Norwalk store can learn more online or by calling the company's hiring office at 203-299-3333.

"Working at Wegmans is more than just a job, it's a place where you can build a life-long career," Gee said. "Many of our employees started with the company in high school and have gone on to work in leadership roles throughout the company. As a family company, we have always believed we can achieve our goals only if we first fulfill the individual needs of our people."

Greater Norwalk Chamber President Shannon O'Toole Giandurco said last month the chamber was thrilled to have Wegmans join the Connecticut Avenue corridor due to the positive impact it should have on other businesses in the area.

"This addition will bring more visitors to the area and boost the local business scene," O'Toole Giandurco said to Patch. "We're expect a positive ripple effect, increasing foot traffic, sales, and opportunities for nearby businesses. Wegmans' quality and customer focus perfectly align with Norwalk's vision for a vibrant, thriving community."

With the long-planned Wegmans expected to open this summer and other notable businesses such as Target having announced their intention to open soon in Norwalk, O'Toole Giandurco said the chamber is also excited about the momentum in the city's business community heading into 2025.

"New additions like Wegmans, Target and restaurants highlight the strength of our local economy and confidence in Norwalk as a hub for growth," O'Toole Giandurco said. "We're committed to supporting this progress and providing a welcoming environment for businesses of all sizes."
