NORWALK, CT — Norwalk police conducted extended traffic enforcement throughout the city during the month of June to promote roadway safety as warmer weather brings increased activity on the city's streets, according to the department.

In a news release provided by the department, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said this focused initiative was carried out in conjunction with routine patrol enforcement and targeted a variety of violations, including speeding, aggressive driving, cell phone use, failure to obey posted traffic signs and improper mufflers.

According to Podgorski, officers conducted traffic stops involving passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, motorcyclists, moped operators and bicyclists.

Several commercial vehicles and mopeds were towed from city streets as a result of the initiative, Podgorski said.

  • 1,268 total traffic stops.
  • 1,187 citations issued.
  • 13 arrests made.

Enforcement locations were determined using a combination of resident complaints, data from the UCONN Crash Data Repository, historical speeding trends and officer experience, Podgorski said.

"The Norwalk Police Department reminds all motorists to obey traffic laws and drive safely," Podgorski said in a news release. "Our officers remain committed to reducing traffic-related injuries and keeping our roadways safe for everyone."
