Why are you seeking this office?
Norwalk is my home. I grew up here, raised my family here, and spent my career serving our city. I’ve been Council President, volunteered on local boards, and worked alongside neighbors to keep Norwalk vibrant. I’m running because I care deeply about our future—and I want to make sure Norwalk stays welcoming, affordable, and full of opportunity for everyone. Its about Norwalk and not politics.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
The biggest issue facing Norwalk today is affordability. Many families and residents are struggling with the rising cost of living, from housing to taxes. This impacts everyone—seniors, working families, and young professionals—by making it harder to stay in the city they love. If we don’t address affordability, we risk losing the diverse community that makes Norwalk unique.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I am known for working across party lines, asking thorough questions, and making thoughtful, diligent decisions. My leadership is defined by transparency, collaboration, and a strong commitment to neighborhoods. Former Councilwoman Kelly Straniti praised Hempstead for:
Doing his homework
Using “intelligent and reasonable” input
Listening to constituents and being hands-on in neighborhoods
She described him as open-minded and committed to improving Norwalk’s quality of life.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Over development. An overall city-wide comprehensive plan that will address over development. It needs to be understood the macro effects development has on our infrastructure, city resources, traffic and their impact on our neighbor hoods. Budget and the process of developing one.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I was Council President 5 times, four of which I was not a member of the majority party. As Public Works Committee Chairman I lead the introduction to the recycling program and Street Tree planting. Working my way up to Vice President of Company recognized as one of the top 100 companies to work for.
Serving on many non- profit boards, currently Chairperson of LMMM. My Family!
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Nobody is better than you, and your no better than them. Put your head down and keep moving forward. Listen.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
• Norwalk deserves leaders who are dedicated, experienced, and truly invested in the future of our city.
• I promise to listen, act with integrity, and fight for the values that make Norwalk a great place to live.
Together, we can preserve what makes our city special and build a brighter future for all Norwalkers.
