Norwalk Wegmans Store Construction Nears Completion, Looks To Hire For Remaining Jobs
Wegmans is looking to hire workers for a number of remaining open jobs at its first CT store as construction in Norwalk nears completion.

NORWALK, CT — As Wegmans Food Markets works toward opening its first Connecticut store this summer, the company is looking to hire employees for 100 remaining open positions at the new Norwalk location.
Norwalk Store Manager Emily Gee said there are only 100 positions left to fill at the new store, set to open July 23 at 675 Connecticut Avenue, and the store is hosting hiring events to recruit employees for those roles.
"We're looking for people who have a passion for food and are eager to make a difference for our customers and the community," Gee said to Patch. "The ideal candidate also shares our core values of respect, caring and high standards. No experience in the grocery industry is necessary, as we can teach the right candidates all the other skills they need to thrive at Wegmans."

The store held an open hiring event Wednesday at one of its Norwalk offices, located in suite 220 at 40 Richards Avenue, and is set to hold a second event there Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Available positions include entry level managers, shift leaders, full-time customer service roles, stockers, cashiers and more, according to additional press materials provided by Wegmans.

Job seekers are encouraged to fill out an application online in advance of the event through this link, however interviews will also be provided to walk-in applicants on the day of the event.
All candidates who accept a position will begin paid training immediately at the company's Harrison, N.Y., store.
According to Gee, employees who were previously hired to work at the Norwalk store have already been training in their respective departments at the Harrison location.
"All new hires will also have the opportunity to train at [the Harrison store] before transitioning to our Norwalk location closer to opening," Gee said. "This gives them the opportunity to master their position, learn about Wegmans culture and as a company, and feel prepared to serve the community on opening day."
The new Wegmans store has been eagerly anticipated by shoppers in Norwalk since it was first announced back in 2022.
Gee said construction of the Norwalk store is progressing well, and work could be seen well underway at the construction site this week.
"The construction team is on track to turn over to the store team in early June so we can prepare for the grand opening on July 23," Gee said.
Gee also teased an exciting opening day celebration for customers when they are finally able to enter the 92,000-square-foot Norwalk store.
"Opening day is always exciting in our stores," Gee said. "We celebrate with customers by providing samples, as well as the incredible customer services our stores are known for."
Mayor Harry Rilling said in February the city was thrilled to welcome Wegmans to Norwalk.
"Wegmans is known for their great customer service, high-quality products and commitment to community engagement," Rilling said to Patch. "They will be a valuable addition to our city, offering a unique experience and dedication to supporting our community."
Rilling also noted Norwalk was proud to be home to the company's first Connecticut store, which he said was a testament to the city's growth and vibrant, diverse community.
"Norwalk has so much to offer as a coastal city along the I-95 corridor, making us a hub for businesses, families and visitors alike," Rilling said. "The city's balance of urban amenities, coastal charm and commitment to growth make it the perfect place for innovative companies like Wegmans to call home."
Greater Norwalk Chamber President Shannon O'Toole Giandurco said earlier this year the chamber was very excited to have Wegmans join the Connecticut Avenue corridor due to the positive impact it should have on other businesses in the area.
"This addition will bring more visitors to the area and boost the local business scene," O'Toole Giandurco said to Patch. "We're expect a positive ripple effect, increasing foot traffic, sales, and opportunities for nearby businesses. Wegmans' quality and customer focus perfectly align with Norwalk's vision for a vibrant, thriving community."
With the long-planned Wegmans expected to open this summer, and other notable businesses such as Target having announced their intention to open soon in Norwalk, O'Toole Giandurco said the chamber is also thrilled about the momentum in the city's business community for 2025.
"New additions like Wegmans, Target and restaurants highlight the strength of our local economy and confidence in Norwalk as a hub for growth," O'Toole Giandurco said. "We're committed to supporting this progress and providing a welcoming environment for businesses of all sizes."
