Members of the Woodmont Amateur Radio Association (WARA) invite the public to their Emergency Operations Center located in the Woodmont Borough Hall on Saturday, January 24 from 1-4 pm to experience the group’s Winter Field Day activities. Parking is available across the street.
Winter Field Day (WFD) is a 30-hour hands-on exercise that engages thousands of amateur radio operators and clubs to promote emergency preparedness and the practical application of amateur (ham) radio during winter conditions. During this annual event, participating individuals and clubs go into the “field” to set up portable stations or use Emergency Operations Centers, their homes or vehicles and try to contact as many other participating stations as possible. They use a wide variety of radio frequencies allocated for licensed amateur radio operators. Operators make contact through voice, digital and Morse code (CW) to improve their preparedness for disasters and enhance their operational abilities. This use of radio signals, which reach beyond borders, brings people together while providing essential communication in the service of communities. Amateur Radio events like Winter Field Day highlight ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent, wireless communications network.
Visitors are welcome to stop by, ask questions, and learn about the exciting hobby of amateur radio and its role in emergency communications. Visitors will also see antennas, various radios, and observe different modes of communication in use. You might even get on the air with a licensed operator and learn the meaning of terms such as CQ, QSL, QSO, 73 and more.

Per CGS 12-145, the second installment of the town tax on the 2024 Grand List of 1 October 2024 and the Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes are due and payable on 1 January 2026. Payments received after 2 February 2026 are considered delinquent and are subject to the rate of 18% per annum, 1.5% per month, $2.00 minimum CGS 12-146, dating back to the original due date. Supplemental Motor Vehicle bills are payable in one installment. ALL TAXES ARE DUE 1 JANUARY 2026. We DO NOT
rebill for second installments. Your July tax bill has a January tax bill attached. FAILURE TO RECEIVE A TAX BILL DOES NOT EXEMPT YOU FROM PAYMENT OF ALL INTEREST CHARGES AND COLLECTION COSTS, per CGS 12-130, 12-148. If you need a tax bill, call the tax office. Hot Stove Luncheon to honor Gold Bat class of 2025
The West Haven Twilight League will hold its Hot Stove Luncheon on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at West River Hall, 37 Orlando Street, West Haven, CT 06516.&nbsp; Doors open at noon, followed by a luncheon buffet sponsored by J.roo’s Restaurant.
The 61st annual Gold Bat awards will be presented at this time. League President Mike Torello, Commissioner Dan Gooley and the WHTL Board of Directors recently named this year’s honorees. The 2025 Gold Bat class includes Chris Flynn, Pat Lynch, Brendan Moss, and Chris Murray.
The league will present the Bob Moran Lifetime Achievement Award to Joe Roche. The Community Service Award will be presented to Bill O’Brien. Susan Gilbert Courage Award will be presented to Steve Dargan. Sal Coppola, retired Amity High School baseball coach and former Gold Bat recipient will receive a Career Recognition award from the league.
Tickets are $60.00 per person and can be obtained online at WHTL.org or by emailing your ticket request to rcdepew@comcast.net. Seating is limited, and we are hoping that many past Gold Bat Award recipients and past players can attend or donate to the WHTL.
