Did you Know? Your current address is important!

DMV address change reporting statute 14-17a

Office of the Collector of Taxes (Town of Orange)

Chapter 246 - Motor Vehicles of the CT general statutes contain this little tidbit that affects you if you have a registered vehicle and change your address. Section 14-17a gives you a 48-hour period to notify the DMV when you change your address. This notification is to include both your new and old address. Why is this important? Well for one thing it affects where your Town Motor Vehicle Tax Bill is sent. It affects where your registration renewal bills or replacement vehicle plates are sent! It may even affect what Town or City taxes you if you change towns! Not providing this information in a timely fashion is considered an infraction and you can get a ticket requiring payment of a fine and possibly a Court Date. Misaddressed tax bills will accrue interest if you are late. Not receiving a bill is not considered a valid excuse and it takes time to find you! (CGS 12-142)
