On The Border in Orange Closes Permanently Amid National Shutdowns
On The Border in Orange, CT, has permanently closed amid national shutdowns. Only one Connecticut location remains open.

ORANGE, CT — A local restaurant offering Tex-Mex fare, the On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, has shuttered.
The chain’s Facebook page for its Orange location indicates it is “permanently closed.” The local restaurant had operated for years at 220 Indian River Road.

The chain closed multiple restaurants around the country. According to its website, the chain was founded in 1982. As of November 2024, it reported having 121 restaurants in the United States and internationally. As of Tuesday, there were 67 locations listed on the company’s main website.
The only location now listed for Connecticut is in Rocky Hill, on the Silas Deane Highway.

A Local Favorite Gone
The restaurant’s menu includes choices such as fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, margaritas and sangria.
On The Border is part of the Atlanta, Georgia-based Argonne Capital Group’s portfolio, according to its website. The restaurant chain declined to comment on the closures Tuesday.
Local Business Steps In
On Monday, another local restaurant, the Orange Ale House Grille and Burger Bar, said on Facebook it will honor On The Border’s gift cards for up to $25 through March 31, 2025.
“We’re sorry to see our friends at On The Border closing up shop,” the post reads. “They have been a long time fixture in Orange.”
