Orange Fire Engulfs Residents Home and Belongings, Niece Creates GoFund Me Page

The Derby Milford Road home was a total loss, leaving the resident displaced with very little of his possessions salvaged.

Dennis Skurjo, of Orange, recently lost his 400 Derby Milford Rd. house and personal possessions in a devastating house fire on Saturday, May 23, according to the GoFund Me page created by his niece, Tiffany Skurjo.

The page said Skurjo and his dogs were able to escape the fire safely, but the home is a total loss. Skurjo was reportedly able to walk away with the clothes on his back, his cars and salvaged photo albums.

“He has been working hard the past 30-something years of his life, and within a matter of minutes his entire home and all his belongings were destroyed,” Skurjo’s niece wrote. “If anyone knows my uncle, they first know he has the biggest and most kind, genuine heart out of anyone I know.”

Fire Marshal Tim Smith said yesterday that he is requesting anyone with photographs or videos from the fire contact him at 203-891-4709.

“He has treated myself and my sisters as if we were his own, and he would give the clothes off his back for anyone who needed them,” Skurjo’s niece wrote, “and we are trying to do the same for him; it’s our turn to help him.”
