Orange Man Accused of Murdering Mother Will Pursue "Mental Disease or Defect"

Police said the incident happened July 24 of last year.

Timothy D. Granata, 23, of Orange, who is currently on trial and accused of fatally beating his mother last year, intends to pursue a defense of “mental disease or defect,” according to the New Haven Register.

He has not yet entered a plea for the charge of the murder of Claudia Dinan Granata, 58, from July 24, 2014 in their Orange home, the Register reported.

Granata’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 29, according to the Register. The notice was filed by Granata’s attorney on May 11.
