Orange Raises Pride Flag for First Time in History
Fitzmaurice Leads Call to Action: "In Strong Towns Like Ours, Everyone Belongs"

Orange, CT – June 12, 2025 — For the first time ever, the Town of Orange has raised the Pride flag—just one day after a public call to action by First Selectman candidate Dan Fitzmaurice at the June 10 Board of Selectmen meeting. The flag was raised today at High Plains Community Center, where the town will also host its beloved Strawberry Festival on Saturday.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, Fitzmaurice urged town leaders to join other Connecticut communities in visibly recognizing Pride Month. Holding the flag in his hands, he said:
“This isn’t about politics—it’s about people. It’s about leading with our values and backing them up with action. Because in strong towns like ours, everyone matters and everyone belongs.” Watch his full remarks: Live video link
Jody Dietch, Chair of the Orange Democratic Town Committee, praised the action:
“We are pleased to have Orange fly its true colors of acceptance of others by raising the Pride flag. This shows the community our town’s commitment in welcoming everyone.”

Until now, Orange was the only town in the region that had not raised the Pride flag. Today’s change marks an important step forward.
To celebrate this moment of progress, Orange Democrats will gather for a group photo in front of the flag on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. All are welcome.
