Orange Tobacco Retailers Cited For Selling To Underage Customers: PD

Police conducted inspections Tuesday at shops and gas stations that sell tobacco and vaping products.

ORANGE, CT — Two local retailers were cited for selling tobacco or vaping products to minors after unannounced compliance inspections Tuesday, according to police.

Police teamed up with Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program partners to conduct the compliance checks at 11 local retailers, according to police.

The two establishments cited for selling tobacco or vaping products to minors included Valero/ Love Food Mart at 347 Boston Post Rd., and Star Smoke Shop at 278 Boston Post Rd., police said, in a press release.

At the other nine Orange businesses tested, all asked for identification and did not sell the products to the underage volunteers who participated, according to police.

It is against state law to sell tobacco products and e-cigarettes to anyone under the age of 21.

Clerks who are found to be selling to underage customers will receive infraction tickets with $300 to $1,000 fines, according to police.
