'Past Captain, Active Firefighter' Mourned By Orange Volunteer Fire Department

Ken Mitchell​, a former captain and active firefighter​, died this week at the age of 71, according to the Orange Volunteer Fire Department.

ORANGE, CT — The Orange Volunteer Fire Department announced this week Ken Mitchell, a former captain and active firefighter, died Tuesday at the age of 71 following a medical emergency.

In a tribute posted to Facebook, OVFD officials noted Mitchell was recently recognized for his 50 years of service to the department.

Mitchell was also a member of a number of local, regional and state fire service organizations, including Webster Hose Company in Ansonia and Paugassett Hook & Ladder Company in Derby.

He also served the community as a supernumerary police officer, a school bus driver and member of several community service organizations, according to OVFD.

Mitchell leaves behind his wife, two children, mother and several grandchildren. He is predeceased by his father, Former Orange Fire Chief Ken Mitchell Sr.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Ken's family," the post reads.
