Police searched for hours for the two suspects, including in an open space area known as the Racebrook Tract.

Woodbridge and state police, including K-9 teams, assisted Orange police with the search.

The suspects were spotted but managed to evade capture in the woods.

As a precaution, Amity Middle School and the Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy were placed on lockdown.

Around 3:30 p.m., police received reports of a man in backyards in the area of Dentree Drive and Birchwood Road. Police apprehended a 16-year-old from New Haven in the backyard of an Oakwood Drive residence. Police said the suspect had entered two residences in an attempt to hide.

The teen already had a monitoring bracelet on his ankle, according to police.

Police charged the juvenile with larceny of a motor vehicle, interfering with police, credit card theft, third-degree burglary, and second-degree burglary. He was transferred to the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport. Police did not release his identity due to his age.

As of Wednesday afternoon, police said the second suspect had not been located. Police said they have leads on his identity, and the case remains under investigation.
