Seymour Library welcomes again the historian John Cilio. Mr. Cilio will give a nostalgic look at how the Christmas holidays were celebrated throughout the years in the United States.
Christmas celebrations in America are ever changing. Common celebration symbols have been added, changed or disappeared over the years. President Franklin Pierce was the first to have a Christmas tree in 1853. Since than the Christmas tree has come into its own--lights for the tree--candles, then electric lights and ornaments of glass, tin, cardboard and plastic have been become a constant to the American holiday.
Join us for a nostalgic look on how families celebrated the holidays--remembering the cards, Christmas trees--ornaments, lights and tinsel and food.
This is a free event and registration is not needed. For more information please call the Library at 203-888-3903.
