Peaceable Neighbors Petition Against Ridgefield Winter Club

Neighbors have come out in strong opposition of a winter club on the old Peaceable Farm site.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Neighbors in the Peaceable Street area of town are petitioning against plans for the Ridgefield Winter Club to be built at 340 Peaceable Street. According to the online petition, the neighbors say the land is zoned for residential use, and argues that private clubs do not belong in residential areas. As of 11:26 a.m. Thursday, the petition has 264 signatures of its 5,000 signature goal.

"It upsets me terribly at the prospect of this big giant monster going up in our quite peaceful neighborhood," commented Lauren Daher of Ridgefield on the petition."This would only serve to benefit residents of other towns at our expense."

The proposed club would be located at 340 Peaceable St., the location of the former Peaceable Farm near the New York border. According to a report from the Ridgefield Press, the proposed club would have parking for 102 cars, an outdoor ice rink and a clubhouse with a restaurant and bar.

"This will not only severely diminish property values in the area, it will increase traffic, lower safety and create noise, trash and air pollution throughout the southern part of town," commented Cynthia Rio on the petition.
