Police Warn of Area Car Break-Ins Across the Region
BREAKING: Ridgefield, Redding, Brookfield and Bethel police are reporting numerous smash and grab vehicle break-ins in the area.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — Police in Ridgefield, Redding and Brookfield are warning residents to lock their cars and do not leave valuables in plain sight after several smash and grabs occurred over the last several weeks.
Captain Jeff Kreitz, Public Information Officer with the Ridgefield Police Department said that on August 10, 2016 at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Ridgefield Police Department responded to the Ridgefield Parks and Recreation Center at 195 Danbury Road for a larceny complaint. Kreitz said that the windows on four vehicles were broken between approximately 1:15 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. and the owners of two of the vehicles reported various items missing.
"We would like to remind everyone to please lock your vehicles and remove all valuables. Please report all suspicious behavior," Kreitz said.

Vehicles in the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut in Brookfield, at the West Redding post office and at residences in Bethel have also been broken into as well, those departments reported on their Facebook pages.
Two vehicles were broken into during the night of July 27 in Bethel near exit 8 off of I-84. Both cars parked in driveways and were unlocked, police said. Credit cards stolen in Bethel were later used and Target and Best Buy in Meriden, Walmart in Naugatuck and gas stations across the state.

Police urge residents not to keep valuables in their cars, lock car doors, roll up windows completely and to park in a well lit area.
