Ridgefield Eyesore to be Demolished: Report

An historic blighted Ridgefield house on Catoonah Street is scheduled for demolition in the very near future.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — An eyesore on Catoonah Street in picturesque downtown Ridgefield will soon be demolished, according to The News Times. The historic home was built in 1815, according to the report, and the U.S. Postal Service leases the property where the house is located and signed an agreement with the Historic Preservation Office to knock it down.

Neighbors fought for years to get the post office and the town to do something about the home's dilapidated condition, The News Times reported.

The home was subject of a lawsuit in 2015 filed by plaintiffs Chad E. Cohen and Kirsten Cohen who alleged that "Postal Holdings" was the fee simple owner of a property located at 26 and 28 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield and that a private nuisance was created at 28 Catoonah Street causing them injuries. Court documents show the plaintiffs accused Postal Holdings for failing to "act and to abate the alleged private nuisance."
