Ridgefield To Hold Special Town Meeting On Property Purchase And Fracking Waste Repeal

Ridgefield residents will have the opportunity to vote on two significant measures at a special town meeting this coming week.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Ridgefield residents will have the opportunity to vote on two significant measures at a special town meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the large conference room at Town Hall, located at 400 Main St.

The first item on the agenda is a proposed $750,000 appropriation to fund the acquisition of real property located at 217 Danbury Road. The funds would cover costs including the purchase price, legal fees, inspections, surveys, appraisals, and other related expenses. The appropriation would be financed through the issuance of town bonds, with the potential to reduce the borrowing amount if grants or external funds are secured.

According to the resolution presented by both the Board of Selectpersons and the Board of Finance, the bonds would be issued under terms set by the First Selectperson, with authorization to seek temporary financing while awaiting full bond issuance. The property acquisition is framed as a strategic investment in the town’s infrastructure and future planning.

The second matter to be considered is the proposed repeal of Ridgefield’s local ordinance regulating hydraulic fracturing waste, commonly referred to as fracking waste. Originally enacted as a preventive environmental measure, the ordinance regulates the storage, handling, and disposal of waste byproducts from the hydraulic fracturing process.

Residents are encouraged to attend and vote on both matters. Full text of the proposed resolution and background documentation is posted in the Town Calendar section at www.ridgefieldct.gov.
