Ridgefield Initiates Hiring Freeze: Report

Amid the state budget crisis, the town has been forced to take action.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The town has initiated a hiring freeze in light of the state budget crisis in Hartford, reports the Ridgefield Press. First Selectman Rudy Marconi told the publication the town has taken steps to freeze hiring in town, and not fill any vacancies as of July unless it's an emergency.

Ridgefield is without around $590,000 in state funding. Two areas of the town's budget are on hold, the Municipal Revenue Sharing Fund and the Town Aid Road money.

Marconi added that his main concern is whether or not the legislature will vote to shift teacher pension obligations to municipalities, calling it the "800-pound gorilla in the room."
