Ridgefield Named One Of America's Safest Places To Raise A Child

Ridgefield, CT — Ridgefield is one of the safest places to raise a child, according to new rankings published by SafeWise. Nine of Connecticut's towns are among the 30 safest places in the country to raise a child, according to the rankings.

To make the rankings, SafeWise compiled the most recent FBI crime data from 2015 to rank the cities. The company also considered parks and recreational opportunities as well as special programs for kids and families.

Connecticut represented nearly one-third of the rankings system, thanks to what SafeWise called "an exceptionally low rate of violent crime."

Here are the Connecticut communities that made the list:

2. Fairfield (3)
3. Ridgefield (15)
4. Southington (18)
5. Westport (20)
6. Simsbury (24)
7. Cheshire (25)
8. Milford (26)
9. Glastonbury (27)

This is what SafeWise says about Milford:

"A 300-year-old town at the foot of the Berkshire mountains, Ridgefield lives up to its name with stately colonials and green lawns that lead to the sea. The Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra, formerly known as the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, is famous for having performed at both Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.8 The school system is noted for a fantastic band and an arts program that would be music to any parent’s ears."
