Ridgefield OKs $200K For Emergency Radio Console Upgrade

Ridgefield approves $200K for emergency radio system; GOP seat opens on Board of Selectpersons as Chris Murray resigns.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Ridgefield voters approved a resolution Wednesday to allocate up to $200,000 for a new radio communication dispatch console system, replacing aging equipment used by emergency response teams.

The current system, in use for more than a decade, has experienced two major failures in recent months. The town's provider, NORCOM, restored operations using the only spare console, which had previously served as a backup. Officials said the upgrade is vital to maintaining reliable communications among first responders.

The replacement system was originally included in the proposed Public Safety Building plan rejected by voters in a February referendum. The new console will be compatible with any future facility, according to town officials.

Also this week, Selectperson Chris Murray submitted his resignation from the Board of Selectpersons, effective June 1. Under Ridgefield’s Town Charter, the board has 30 days from that date to appoint a replacement who must be a registered Republican. The appointee will serve through November 2027.

Residents interested in the vacancy are asked to submit a letter of interest and résumé to either the Republican Town Committee or the Board of Selectpersons by June 12.
