Ridgefield Resident Places Fifth in District Student Advertising Competition

Zachary Arkins of Ridgefield was among the University of Scranton's 2016 student adverting team that placed fifth against teams from colleges in Pennsylvania, New York and Washington, D.C., in the District 2 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). The district competition took place in April in New York City.

The national competition was administered by the American Advertising Federation and sponsored by Snapple. The competition required teams to perform research, create, write and present an integrated advertising campaign in response to a real-world advertising challenge currently faced by Snapple.

Teams from more than 150 colleges and universities participate nationally each year. The winning teams from 15 district competitions advance to the final round of the national contest, which will be held in Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Ca. in June.

A team from George Washington University won the District 2 competition.

The university's 2016 advertising competition team members are Zachary Arkins of Ridgefield, Conn.; Amelia Cheikhali of Bethpage, N.Y.; Karen Mennella of Mahwah, N.J.; Carly Murphy of Pittston; Jedediah Stewart of Scranton; Amy Verdonik of Butler, N.J. and Julian Wilusz of Tannersville. Communication professor Stacy Smulowitz, Ph.D., serves as the team's faculty adviser.
