Ridgefield's New Fire Chief Announced: Report
The new chief will replace Kevin Tappe, who retired in January after an alleged policy violation.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Acting town fire chief Jerry Myers will become the town's new permanent head of the fire department, reports the Ridgefield Press. The 36-year fire department member Myers was approved for recommendation by the town's Fire Commission by a unanimous vote Wednesday.
Myers won't officially become the town's fire chief until the board meets on June 7, which is a formality under the town charter. The Board of Selectmen are expected to vote on the commission's recommendation of Myers.
He takes over for Kevin Tappe, who retired in January amid an investigation into an alleged "violation of town policy." A document released to the Ridgefield Press by the town suggested that Tappe appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the scene of a fire at the Fox Hill condominiums in December. The documents contain a written statement signed by fire captain David McDevitt, according to the report.
