Sturges Park Gets $25,000 From Fairfield County Bank to Build New Cabin

The new log cabin will be located in Sturges Park and will be available to non-profit organizations through Ridgefield Parks and Rec.

RIDGEFIELD, CT – Sturges Park will be graced with a brand new 2,000 square foot log cabin that includes a wraparound porch thanks to a $25,000 gift from Fairfield County Bank. The four-season camping area was a gift to the Town of Ridgefield by Don and Jim Sturges’ grandfather in 2000 for the purpose of using it for camping by the Ridgefield Boy and Girl Scouts.

The cabin will sit within the 40 acres of land given to the town and will include picnic tables, bunk beds, lighting and a wood burning stove. The cabin will be handicap accessible with a ramp and nearby handicap parking.

Sturges Park currently has twelve lean-tos for camping, three tent areas, a pavilion with picnic tables and a large campfire area. Sturges Park borders New York’s Westchester Mountain Lakes Park which has an abundance of hiking trails, lakes, and land for park users to enjoy.
