Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday.

SHELTON-DERBY, CT — If you're like many of your Shelton and Derby neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Shelton-Derby area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  • Adam's House is dedicated to providing grief education and peer support in a nurturing, home-like environment.
  • Shelton Public Schools Mentoring Program features men and women throughout the Greater Shelton area who volunteer their time each week at schools through the city.
  • Spooner House is operated by Area Congregations Together, Inc. with the mission of providing food, shelter and support services to people in need.
  • TEAM, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit human services agency whose mission is to ensure the causes & conditions of poverty are being addressed and the communities, families, and individuals we serve are empowered and strengthened through education, support, and opportunities.
  • Valley Community Foundation mission is two-fold: match the charitable ambitions of those in our community with an area of their passion and help our local nonprofits find sustainable solutions that allow them to provide for those in the Valley.
