Ansonia Man Charged After Shelton Cops Spot AK-47, Launch Probe: PD
The charges stem from an incident in downtown Shelton in November 2023.
SHELTON, CT – An Ansonia resident faces weapon charges stemming from a November 2023 incident in downtown Shelton.
Edward Vickers, 40, of Ansonia was charged Jan. 16 on a warrant with possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of a sawed off shotgun, illegal alteration of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of an assault weapon, theft of a firearm, and criminal possession of body armor.
Shelton Det. Christopher Nugent said police were summoned to a downtown residence on Nov. 1, 2023 for a report of a burglary in progress. Officers didn’t find any intruders. However, while checking the apartment, they noticed an AK-47 assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine in plain view in a bedroom, according to Nugent.

Shelton detectives subsequently executed a search warrant and found 13 illegal firearms, high-capacity magazines, narcotics, body armor, and personal information related to Vickers, police said.
Police secured a warrant for Vickers’ arrest, and on Jan. 16, they located his unoccupied vehicle in Bridgeport. Vickers was taken into custody when he got into his vehicle, police said.

Vickers is due to appear in Superior Court in Derby March 6.
