Armed Thief Robs Juvenile Of Electric Bike In Ansonia: PD

ANSONIA, CT — A robber displayed a firearm and stole a male juvenile’s electric bike Tuesday, according to police.

Police responded and saw another individual operating the stolen bike, which was then abandoned on Sunset Drive, where police recovered it.

Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop after spotting a vehicle with one of the suspects inside. Police found a 17-year-old juvenile inside the vehicle and took the teen into custody.

Police said the 17-year-old had a loaded firearm and narcotics.

Police charged the teen with second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, carrying a pistol without a permit, interfering with a police officer, and possession of a controlled substance.

The 17-year-old was ordered detained and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport.

Police said they have identified a second suspect in the bike robbery and anticipate making an additional arrest.

While stopping the vehicle with the robbery suspect inside, police found additional narcotics, which resulted in the arrest of two other individuals on drug charges, police said.

Sheldon Haley, 45, of Ansonia was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Kylen Sanders, 31, of West Haven was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics with intent, tampering with evidence and interfering with a police officer.

Police said Sanders attempted to conceal narcotics on his person and resisted being searched. Sanders refused to be processed and fingerprinted, so he was additionally charged with failure to be fingerprinted, according to police.
