Suspect In Double Fatal Seymour Crash Tried To Flee to Mexico: PD

SEYMOUR, CT — An arrest has been made in the Dec. 10 hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly couple as they were leaving a wake in Seymour, according to police.

Jair Irogoyen-Flores, 24, is being held in lieu of bail of $1.5 million in connection with the case, and prosecutors said during an arraignment hearing in court Thursday that he had a one-way ticket to Mexico in his possession at the time of his arrest, reported WTNH-TV.

Irogoyen-Flores was charged with two counts of misconduct with a motor vehicle and evading responsibility involving a death, wrote WFSB-TV.

James and Barbara Tamborra, both 81 years old, were crossing Bank Street just after 6 p.m. when they were struck by an Acura MDX that fled the scene. The couple had just left a wake at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home.

In addition to Irogoyen-Flores's arrest, Seymour police also said the vehicle he is suspected of driving at the time of the crash has been found.
