Board of Aldermen Meeting Wrap-Up

Dec. 9, 2010: Issues discussed included the ethics ordinance, SHS baseball field and committee appointees.

At Thursday night's Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Mark Lauretti congratulated the Shelton High School girls' soccer team on their CIAC Class LL state championship. Shelton beat Westhill last month to win their first ever state champs title. "It's a recognition that is well-deserved," Lauretti said. He recalled that when his daughter played soccer, the team had four different coaches in four years. "The team has struggled. These girls have made a tremendous accomplishment in a short period of time," he said.

Moving on to matters of business, Aldermanic President John Anglace said that in regards to an ethics ordinance, the board did meet along with two consultants, but further action would be held off until after a meeting in January.

The board also passed a motion for the SHS baseball field to be renovated. Tate & Associates, LLC, the company that had worked on Long Hill School's field, will also be fixing up SHS. The Long Hill Baseball Field Building Committee has been designated to oversee the renovations.

"This project is long overdue," said John Papa. The outfield will be leveled, the infield will be cleaned up, fences will be erected and overall maintenance will continue. Lauretti said that the project would "correct drainage deficiencies" that often leave the area flooded and prevent teams from practicing.

Two reappointments to the Public Employees Appeals Board were made: Michael Davis (D) and Joe Connor (R). The board said they still need to make three more appointments to this committee.

One appointment to the Public Improvement Building Committee was made: Chuck Cogswell. "Mr. Cogswell has lived in Shelton for many, many years. We are pleased to have him," said Anglace.
