Bomba Salon: Art in Salon and Hair Design

The rooms of the Bomba Salon are just as decorated and artistic as the hair styling that owners John Fredy and Robert Bomba do.

The salon, accessible through a door in the back of a Downtown Shelton building, occupies what turns out to be a spacious basement. Not that you would know it's a basement.

"We made our space to suit our needs," said Bomba, who graduated from Shelton High School and lives with his husband, Fredy.

Bomba and Fredy both worked in salons in Greenwich, where they met. Bomba said he's also worked in Europe and with MTV. They married Sept. 21, 2012, and are approaching their one year anniversary.

The salon is open Tuesday through Saturday, and primarily works by appointment, so new customers should call first. The number is 203-513-2365.

"I want to give the VIP feeling to people. It's about you," Bomba said.

Bomba said they charge reasonable prices: $30 for a men's haircut; $55 for women; Blowdry: $45; Color, $75; Highlights run from $65 to $125. In Greenwich, he noted, a men's haircut could cost $50.

He noted that many of their past clients have followed them to Shelton, from Rhode Island and New York and from within Connecticut, including Old Lyme, Madison and Clinton.

Gayle Kukta of Ansonia was in the chair when Patch visited. She said she as if she were in a Los Angeles salon.

"I think it's trendy," she said.
